Thank you to Chobham's Soup Dragons

The Chobham Soup Dragons who organise a series of Friday charity lunches at St Lawrence Church Hall during the season of Lent have raised more than £500 for Woking Hospice.

Tour of Britain will speed through Chobham

The Tour of Britain cycle event, celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2013, will pass through Chobham on its Surrey stage on Saturday September 21st.

It will be starting in Scotland at Peebles on Sunday 15th September for Stage One and end in Whitehall in central London on Sunday September 22nd. 

Surrey  is stage 7 and follows a 150.4km route from Epsom to Guildford (not taking the direct route!)

Surrey County Council elections

The Surrey County County election in Chobham is wide open as our long-serving county councillor Lavinia Sealy is standing down. The poll is on Thursday May 2nd. Nomination papers for candidates have to be received by the 5th April.

Polling cards are already arriving in the post for registered voters.

If you are not already registered, the closing date is April 17th.  If you want to vote by proxy, you must register for that by April 24th - except in cases of medical emergencies.

Candidates

Our local county councillor will be for the division Bagshot, Windlesham & Chobham. The candidates are:

  • Mike Goodman (Conservative)
  • Ruth Hutchinson (Liberal Democrat)
  • Robert Shatwell (UKIP)
  • Richard Wilson (Labour)

Hustings

There will be a chance to hear from all the candidates standing in the Surrey County Council elections to represent Bagshot, Windlesham and Chobham at a hustings next Tuesday 16th April organised by Bagshot Society.

The hustings will be at St Anne's Church Centre, 45 Church Road, Bagshot GU19 5EQ. Please get there at 7pm for a 7:30pm start.

The chairman will be The Reverend David Chilman, vicar of Bagshot. The hustings are primarily for the people of Bagshot, but other residents in the new Bagshot, Windlesham and Chobham ward are welcome.

Easter fun in Chobham

Chobham shops are putting on an Easter Eggs-travaganza on Easter Saturday, following the success of the Christmas open evening.

The fun starts at 10am and includes an Easter treasure hunt with clues in shop windows and a prize of a trip to Legoland, face painting at the Velvet Rooms hairdresser, chocolate making at Pasha and an invitation to visit the Easter bunny in his warren at What-Nots.

There is a merry go round and an Easter bonnet competition at St Lawrence Church at 3pm. Proceeds will be going to Surrey Search and Rescue.
