Chobham's new vicar

The next Vicar of Chobham Chris Bessant takes up his appointment early in 2013. Chris and his wife Sophie will be starting their new life in Chobham in February with their three teenage children, Ben, Charlotte and Luke.

They are moving over from Great Bookham, where Chris is currently the curate at St Nicolas, but they had lived previously in Leatherhead, Cobham, Hampton Court and Kingston-upon-Thames.

Before becoming a minister in 2009, Chris had worked for seventeen years as an IT specialist and project manager in the City of London, and various overseas locations.  Sophie is a children’s nurse based at Leatherhead Hospital.

Chris is passionate about building discipleship, encouraging leadership, and church growth.  In recent years he has been busy as a school community governor at primary level.  “In many respects the Chobham situation is similar to Great Bookham, where there is a clear sense of community engagement and activity,” says Chris.

Chris Bessant Having been happy and effective in Great Bookham, Chris and Sophie had a clear sense that God had been preparing them for a ministry such as Chobham.

In their spare time they enjoy walking their two Boston Terriers, and where possible scuba diving.
